Happy New Year!! It's 2010!

Happy New Year to you All!! Yes i'm late, but one of my resolutions is to provide you with weekly updates on this blog. I spent my new year with friends and family in Vancouver. Actually on NYE, I chilled out with wifey and my brothers, DJs P-Luv and OMG, at Bar None in Yaletown. We celebrated the new year together and had sandwiches at Duffin's for our after hours hunger. (Is that English??) Anyways, the year has been great so far. Thank you all for a great 2009! I wish you all the best for 2010!! Like Tupac said, "Keep Ya Head Up". Peace to all!

The Boyscouts of Vancity

If you don't know, you should know. The Boyscouts have been a staple to the DJ and music scene in Vancouver, and have spread their reputation throughout the world. When I first discovered them at a pool hall in Yaletown back in the late 90's, I believe it was Athletic Billiard Cafe, I vividly remember their humble beginnings. These guys have been rockin' parties since I can remember. The Boyscouts are DJ's P-Luv and Marlon J. English. You can catch them around the city in various clubs, especially with the Donnelly Group. Just recently they played at the new Gossip Nightclub (formerly Plush) at the Plaza of Nations, which is hosted by Gman and Rizk. Be sure to check them out if you want to party and/ or if you're visiting the Northwest Coast.

The Boyscouts' site is HERE.

The Boyscouts Photo Shoot - October 15, 2008

One cold day in October, about 2 weeks ago, I took some photos of my good friends and Vancouver's top DJ crew, the Boyscouts. The Boyscouts, established in 1997, DJs Marlon J. English and P-Luv have proven themselves to be a ruling sound of Vancouver BC, surrounding territories and beyond. You can check out some of the shots on the Boyscouts Flickr page, as well as at www.cutnrender.com in the Photo Gallery. Come party with the Boyscouts at The Blend at Republic Wednesdays and at other Donnelly Nightclubs.

SVS 3 Year Anniversary @ Plush - Sept.13, 2008

The SVS Style Dance Crew celebrated, and not only brought the sexy, but the real hip-hop, to the stage at Plush Nightclub for their 3 Year Anniversary. From songs from Digable Planets to Pharcyde of the 90's, the ladies delivered a memorable performance. Another video of the performance will be coming soon. But for now, check out the video below. Thanks to Rowe for coming through and taking more photos, as well as to OJ for the SVS Style banner, and to DJ Hedspin (Eh! Team DJs/ Kut Co./ Heds Up Marketing) for the dope music track! Be sure to check SVS' website and blog.

Check out the photos HERE.

the Hastings Set: Everybody's Party - August 8, 2008

Ooh wee!... It's been a long time since i've been to a private event like this, where there was great music (live bands and DJs) and great people. It was hotter than a MF in the joint, but everybody's vibe was positive and all were having a good time. DJ's Niña, Gerald C. and Bles-sed rocked the decks and kept the crowd moving all night. Omar and friends, Curtis Santiago and his guitarist (sorry, but I don't remember names well), all the musicians, and for those that i've missed, gave great performances that evening. I also met a couple of great photographers; Brad Dijkman and Riaz Makan. Thank you to Jeff, Chin and the Hastings Set crew for putting on another great gathering! See you next round. Peace.

Please check out photos of the evening, HERE.

The return of Zaki Ibrahim

My good friend, Zaki Ibrahim, performed at the Media Club, as well as Kinnie Starr as the opening act, on July 17. Due to a prior engagment, I missed the show :( In any case, I heard that the show was great. I managed to meet with Zaki at Lola's and got her to sign a copy of her cd. Thanks Zaki!!

p.s. "Tanika, it was great seeing you homegirl!! Miss you!"

Yeeeah boyeeeee!!

Saturday night after work, was supposed to be a chill night watching a movie at the theatre. My friend was too tired to catch a flick, so I decided to hang out with DJ P-Love and Gerald C at the Republic (http://www.donnellynightclubs.ca/). I was only expecting to just hang out for a couple hours and go home and sleep, but a surprise guest rolled through for that night's festivities. Flava Flav came through with an entourage, and came on the mic, hyping the crowd. Part of his entourage was Kelly Perine (Under One Roof/ One on One/ Between Brothers), Carl Anthony Payne II ("Cockroach", Cosby Show/ Martin), and other African Amercian actors/ artists. Barbara Beam was in the house, and it was Mr. Mik Rock's birthday too. DJ P-Love held it down with Flava Flav, playin' hip hop beats for him to rhyme to, as well as dropping music from his single "911 is a Joke", as well as music from Public Enemy.

Another hype night, but feelin' the pain here at work today. Work hard, play hard. Thanks again Republic, Flava Flav, and to DJ's P-love and Gerald C!
